A Night on the Town

A man wearing a dark hooded jacket sat alone at a bar on a rainy night. He was in the middle of his thoughts when suddenly his concentration was broken by the bartender placing a shot infront of him. "But, I didn't order-"

"You looked like you could use it," the bartender said. "What's someone like you doing out in these parts anyways?"

"Running..."

"You certainly don't look the type," the bartender told him.

He swallowed his drink and reached into his pocket.

"You don't have to-"

"Oh, but I insist!" The man said. He stood and there was a flash of light reflecting off of metal, followed by a gunshot. The bartender slumped over onto the bar. The hooded figure returned the gun to his pocket and made his way to the exit, but was grabbed by the shoulders by two rather large men. He was thrown to the ground, which was littered with broken bottles. He took one and swung it at his attackers, though the made no indication of any form of pain. He was picked up off the ground and slammed into a table, and in an instant there was a knife at his throat. One of the men grabbed his hood and pulled it back letting his dark hair fall, as well as revealing to dark brown cat-like ears.

Someone else made their way to the table. In a fair fight, they probably couldn't hold their own, but looked like they were the leader of the large men who liked to assault bar patrons. This leader pulled out a rather large pistol, a magnum to be precise, and aimed it down at the head of the cat-eared figure. The man in question became rather desperate and in a a last chance attempt, shifted his weight to the very edge of the table. The other end shot up, making contact with the leader's elbow and causing him to drop the gun.

The goons were clearly alarmed by this as they released the man, though they didn't seem to realize it until it was too late. With a good sweep both of the were on their backs and the man pulled his gun, aiming it at the leader. Suddenly there was the sound of glass shattering as a bottle made contact with his head. He fell to the floor, unconscious.

The man awoke to see he was being held down by two of the goons with a third standing guard. The leader once again had the magnum pointed at his head. "We don't care much for your type," the leader told him, "but it's a bit too late for you to run on home now, isn't it?"

The man glared at them, hatred in his eyes.

"It's a shame, really. I'm sure someone out there is going to miss you." The leader pulled back the hammer with his thumb, preparing to end the man's life

The man put his hood back up as he walked towards the city. The leader had gotten away, but the three goons certainly weren't going anywhere ever again. If I ever see him again, I'll make sure he regrets every moment of his pathetic life, the man promised himself. I will avenge my brethren, even if I die in the process.

The bar was on the outskirts of the city, so it seemed as if it hadn't changed at all, but the city itself had changed entirely in five years. He noticed that where once grass had stood there was no simply sheet after sheet of metal. All of the building where metal as well. He looked up to see a large screen, his face displayed upon it. It held his I.D. number below, and the nickname he had been given 'Night', was displayed across the top.

I can't even remember who I actually am, it's been so long since I've been called by an actual name. Night heard the sound of gears spinning quickly and suddenly he was surrounded by large robot type creature. Have I really been gone that long?
