Arkos opened his eyes to see a pitch black sky above him. He wondered what had happened. Is this still the Darkness? he wondered. Suddenly, something he hadn't expected confirmed that this was not the Darkness. A gentle breeze blew past. It felt rather chilly, but Arkos didn't care, he was just glad to be free.

It took him a moment to notice the ground below him; however, he soon noticed that he was lying on his back in the park. It was the same park he had been returned to before, the park where the whole mess of Light and Darkness seemed to start. As well, it was the park where the battle had ended.

Arkos' brother Jason pushed Arkos into the Darkness to protect him from a blast of blinding energy. Arkos assumed that Jason simply blocked the entire blast and saved everyone; however, that made him wonder why he had to be trapped in Darkness for what felt like forever. When Arkos stood up he realized that perhaps he was wrong. He looked at the wreckage before him: bodies, smashed cars, crumbling buildings. Even the grass had vanished, replaced by dead soil that looked far too infertile for plants to grow.

Arkos couldn't look for too much longer as a wave of dark orange wind swept through the surrounding area. It was like the wind before, only more icy as if it were the grip of death itself. The wind seemed to turn into energy which found its way into the corpse that littered the streets. The corpses began to rise.

Arkos, fearing the worst, tried to summon one of his blades. Neither Muramasa nor Masamune responded. What's going on? Have I lost my connections to the powers of Light and Darkness after being trapped away for so long?

The bodies advanced. The orange energy began to coat them, to mutate them. Soon they no longer resembled humans at all, but rather something out of a nightmare. Arkos began to panic. He couldn't fight them without a weapon, and they certainly didn't look like the friendly sort. For a brief moment Arkos caught a glimpse of a figure in a dark cloak who seemed to be made of the very energy that had possessed the bodies. Before he could put two and two together a loud noise snapped him out of his thoughts.

He watched as one of the corpse fell to the ground, lifeless once more. The noise came again and another fell. Arkos noticed a figure on a roof quite a ways away that had some strange contraption with them. For each time a corpse fell there a flash of light from the device. Arkos wondered what sort of sorcery this was. Before he could figure anything out at all he heard a shout.

"What do you think you're doing?!? Don't just stand there, move!" A boy called from a nearby alleyway. "Hurry up! Do you want to die?!?"

That would be kinda dumb. Like, why would a post the topic a week before I posted the story? And since I can finally get on the computer whenever I want I decided it would be a good time to type it. Also, ty.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Arkos saw an opening in the swarm of undead freaks and ran towards the boy in the alley. He wasn't sure who they were, but clearly they didn't want him to stand around and get devoured by zombies.
"About time you snapped out of it. What were you thinking?!?"
"Well, I was wondering what the **** is going on. I mean seriously, a little explanation would be nice."
"I see, your parents must have kept you underground, huh? What, did you run off while they weren't looking? You should probably go back to them, this isn't exactly the place for children."
"Children?!?" Arkos asked, clearly insulted. He didn't understand the whole 'underground' thing, but he could recognize an insult easily enough.
"Go on, run back to mommy."
Before Arkos could make a snappy retort there was a call from further down the alley.
"Will! What are you doing? The Chaos minions are coming, hurry up."
Arkos noticed another boy who seemed to be a whole different kind of person than 'Will'. The one who was called Will began to move further down the alley.
"Are you coming?" The other boy asked, and Arkos noticed it seemed to be directed at him. He nodded in reply. He followed Will, despite having no idea where they were going. The other boy led them through the alley, warning Arkos of various booby traps that he would have otherwise never noticed. At the end of the alley there was a large metal door.
The boy, who had yet to give his name, unlocked the door and let them in. The door seemed to close on its own, obviously too heavy to stand open, and he relocked it. Arkos soon noticed that there were in some sort of base. It almost looked like a bunker on the inside and he figured that it originally was. He also noticed that there were too other people besides the ones he had met in the alley.
"Who is this?" One of them, another male, asked. He seemed to be the leader.
"I don't really know, Will found him out on the street but it was too late to return him to his home."
"He's luck to be alive." The last person, a girl who seemed like the only female in the group, commented. "If Will hadn't have found him he probably would have been turned inside out by the minions of the Chaos."
Arkos stayed back while the group conversed. They appeared to be talking about him, but he couldn't tell what they were saying. After a few minutes the leader turned to him.
"What's your name?" he asked.
"Arkos"
"Well, Arkos, we have decided to let you stay here until the Chaos minions calm down a little and then you will be escorted back underground."
Arkos was still confused by the whole 'underground' thing.
"Since you'll be staying here we might as well introduce ourselves. I'm Kody." The leader told him.
"Regina." The girl said rather curtly.
"You've already met William, and I'm Randall." The boy boy from the alley told him.
Arkos suddenly noticed that the boy named Randall looked sort of like someone else he knew named Randall, but the memories were distant.
"I suppose that since you're going to be here a while you might as well make yourself at home." Kody said. He seemed glad that the introductions were over and retreated into a back room.
Arkos certainly wasn't looking forward to having to stay with such moody characters, and he would have to tell them at some point that he didn't live 'underground', whatever that meant. He couldn't help but think back to the figure on the rooftop who had helped him earlier. He was worried about their safety.
Even so, Arkos had a lot to take in today and decided to retire to a bed and hope that this was all a strange dream. The Darkness seemed so comforting to him as he drifted into sleep.
Sorry for two story posts in a row, but I'm trying to get this one caught up.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Arkos had a rather interesting dream that night. He was back in the park before everything was all messed up. Before the Light and the Darkness. It reminded him of a time when everything was peaceful. He saw someone else standing not too far away from him.

Closer inspection revealed the other character to be Jason, his older brother. He looked more carefree than usual. All of the calmness only made it easier for Arkos to be caught off guard when the creatures of the Darkness rose up from the soil. He tried to summon a blade, but once again they refused to appear.

A wave a Light ran over the creatures. They slowly grew and mutated into something more sinister than he had ever seen before. The new hybrid creatures had Arkos and Jason surrounded. Arkos began to panic. In a moment it was all over.

One of the larger creatures thrust a claw-like arm through Jason's torso. Jason screamed in pain, but his mouth began to fill with blood. Satisfied with this result, the creatures vanished back into the ground. It soon became nearly impossible to tell that they had ever even been there. Arkos rushed over to his dying brother.

"Jason! Are you alright?"

"Arkos... do you remember what you promised? You said you would fix everything."

"But how can I fix anything on my own?"

"You.. have to stop him. Even if it means... killing-"

Arkos was woken up rather early in the morning by the sound of someone knocking on metal. It took a moment to remember where he was. He noticed that the group that had taken him in had gathered around the door and seemed to be arguing as usual. At that moment it occurred to him that someone was outside, knocking on the metal door.

"Are you guys gonna answer that?" he asked. He was still rather tired and the knocking made it difficult to sleep.

"How can we be sure it isn't a minion of Chaos out there?" Kody asked.

"Are they really polite enough to knock?" Arkos asked, confused. The things that had attacked him earlier seemed more like savage animals than humans, so he highly doubt they would be knocking.

"I suppose not," Kody said. He turned his attention back to the door only to find that Randall had already opened it.

"Hi! Is Arkos there?" A polite voice asked from the other side.

Randall looked at Arkos. "Do you know this person?"

The voice wasn't familiar to him, but he figured he might as well go check anyways. He walked up to the door to see a cute orange-haired girl standing there. She appeared to be around his age, but he didn't recognize her.

"There you are. Everyone was worried about you." She said.

Arkos wondered what she was talking about.

"C'mon, we have to get you home."

"Actually, that might not be the best idea right now," William spoke up.

"Oh, and why not?"

"Let's just say, if you don't want to become a meal for the Chaos, it's a better idea to stay inside."

"Chaos? But it's perfectly safe outside. I was just out there."

"I wouldn't question William, he can sense the Chaos," Randall told her.

The girl finally gave in and came inside. Arkos couldn't shake the feeling that he knew her from somewhere. Then it hit him. She was the one from the rooftops. Despite barely getting a glimpse of her before, he was sure of it.

Kody suddenly broke Arkos out of his thoughts. "If you're going to be staying here we should atleast know your name," he said to the girl.

"Oh. My name's Cassie," She said with enthusiasm.

Kody, Randall, and William introduced themselves, though Gina seemed to want none of it. Kody explained that she wasn't exactly a 'people person', though Cassie didn't seem to mind. Randall was quick to start a conversation and soon everyone was telling stories. Arkos saw this as an opportunity to look around the bunker a little more.

Aside from the four beds set out in various locations, this room seemed to be mainly for storage. He noticed that there were three rooms that this one was connected to. One of them was inhabited by Regina, so she didn't have to be social, and one of them seemed to belong to Kody. Arkos decided to check out the third and found that it connected to a room with a large wooden spiral staircase.

He climbed it to find himself on the roof of the building. It was crumbling and wasn't connected to any other buildings. It seemed like the staircase was the only way up there. The view was nice and he could see rather far, but there seemed to be no corpses in sight. None that were possessed anyways. He began to wonder if William's powers weren't quite accurate.

He returned to the main bunker to see William giving Cassie a tour. It seemed strange, considering there was practically nothing here. He led her to the room with the staircase and they disappeared up the stairs. Arkos thought nothing of it until he heard a shriek of terror and saw Cassie come running back down the stairs. Arkos, Randall, and Kody ran up the stairs to investigate.

What they found was what appeared to have been William, but was now only a mangled corpse being devoured by another mangled corpse. Arkos, remembering that he couldn't fight those things, thought about running back down the stairs. Kody, however, seemed intent on standing his ground. Randall glared at the corpse that was eating his friend. He held out his hand and the surrounding air seemed to obey.

The wind formed a vortex around the Chaos corpse and suddenly burst into flames. The body collapsed to the ground, having been killed again. Randall seemed to be somewhat worn out from that. Kody pushed the bodies off of the roof and herded Arkos and Randall back down the stairs. He than pushed the heaviest supplies and boxes infront of the door leading to the room with the staircase.

"What just happened?!?" Gina asked, clearly disturbed by the commotion.

"William... he's dead."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Dead?" Gina asked. "But how?"
"One of the Chaos creatures got him some how." Kody explained.
"But, he went up to the roof didn't he? How could they..."
Arkos got bored of listening to the conversation. He stood over by the door, waiting for someone to tell him what he was supposed to do next. He heard a strange noise from behind the door, as if someone was there. He opened it slowly to see William standing there.
"William? But wait, aren't you supposed to be dead or something?"
"What are you doing, you idiot?!? Get away from there!" Arkos heard Kody shout.
There was a loud noise and Arkos felt something move by his face at an extremely high speed. William collapsed to the ground and Arkos turned to see that once again he had been saved by Cassie. It was then that he felt something wrap around his ankle. He looked down to see William, who had grabbed him by the ankle.
"Finally, fresh meat!" William said in a raspy voice.
Arkos froze up. The words were terrifying. William pulled himself closer and looked as if he intended to take a bite out of Arkos' leg. A hand on his shoulder suddenly snapped Arkos back into reality as Kody pulled him away from the deranged corpse.
"Just die already!" Kody exclaimed as he slammed his foot down on the skull of his old friend. The resulting noise was one Arkos hoped he would never have to hear again. William's head burst, sending pieces of bone and brain matter everywhere.
"You idiot! Are you trying to get yourself killed?!?" Kody asked, infuriated. Arkos cowered away. He felt bad enough about having to be saved by them.
"Just leave him alone." Randall said. "He clearly isn't used to this yet."
"I guess not, but that doesn't give him the right to act stupid."
"Go get some rest." Randall told Arkos. It seemed almost strange how nice he was and how calm he was acting. Arkos took his advice and went to rest. After a while he found himself asleep.
The blackness that surrounded him felt similar to the Darkness he had slept in for so long, but something was different about it. It felt almost warm.
"You want to know why the Light and the Darkness don't respond to you, don't you?" A voice asked. It seemed somehow familiar, but he couldn't recall ever actually hearing it.
"It's been a long time since you last roamed this Earth. The war between Light and Darkness is over now. It all ended when a young man filled with Darkness absorbed a large amount of Light energy into his heart. Everything did."
Arkos was confused. He figured that by everything ended, the voice meant that the world fell into this state of despair he had awoken to.
"The combination of Light and Darkness was volatile. From it, two new forces were created, one that uses the destructive force of the combination for power, and one that unifies them. The destructive force, created by an imbalance of both powers is called Chaos. The other is called Balance. The force you posses is Balance, the force responsible for the end of the world is Chaos."
Arkos seemed to understand. In order to make this new power work for him, however, he would need to keep the Light and Darkness within him equal. Still, if it could help him fight the Chaos and fulfill his brother's last request, he didn't have much choice.
The dream slowly faded and Arkos found himself awake once more. He only hoped that what he had learned was more than a figment of his imagination, that he really could fight the Chaos.
Outside, a figure stood on a rooftop, watching the hideout from afar. "It would seem the boy has finally woken up. It will take more than pathetic corpses to defeat him now. My new minions should do just fine however." The figure chuckled to themself as the orange energy left the dead bodies and took a form of its own. "And if he proves himself against them then perhaps he would like to face the seven demons of Chaos..."
"Now that William's gone, our group is short a member. How would you like to join the resistance?"
"Um, okay."
"Then it's settled. Hopefully now we can get back to full strength."
Arkos looked at the group curiously. "I have a question. Why does she get to join the group, but I don't?"
"Because you're an idiot," Kody retorted.
"I think what he means to say is that you... well, you haven't really proved useful. And she did kinda save your life back there."
Cassie said nothing, clearly trying to stay out of it.
"I guess that makes sense, but it still seems a little unfair."
"Besides, she's got a weapon. How do you expect to fight without one?"
Arkos thought back to Muramasa and Masamune. He did have a weapon, two in fact, but they weren't responding to his calls. And then he remembered, the Light and Darkness don't exist anymore, but was it possible that the swords had been completely erased?
Arkos looked back at Randall. What they were previously talking about eluded him, but he was curious now. "What do you know about the whole 'world ending' thing?" he asked.
Randall seemed surprised by the randomness of the question, and the mention of it seemed to aggravate Kody, who let quite suddenly.
"Well, it was a long time ago. Back when two forces known as Darkness and Light waged war with eachother. The stories say that there were two brothers, one who was very powerful and could control Darkness, and one who could use both Light and Darkness. The more powerful brother fought against the Light in an attempt to protect his younger brother from being dragged into the war, however a very powerful sage who controlled Light tricked the younger brother into joining the war willingly."
Arkos realized that it probably wasn't the smartest decision of his life, but it did indeed happen that way.
"Anyways, the brothers fought, and in the end the younger turned on the sage, wielding both Light and Darkness together. The sage saw this as a sign of imperfection, as it was truly impossible to fight for both sides and in an attempt to purge this flawed species known as humans he tried to blow a massive hole in the planet, causing it to explode. The older brother stood up to the attack, but there was a bright flash of Light and he nearly defeated. In order to save everyone he absorbed all of the Light into himself.
When the smoke cleared both brothers were gone. In their place was a cloaked figure who is to this day known as the 'Chaos Reaper'. Both boys are presumed dead."
"So, does that mean Jason really didn't make it?" Arkos asked with clear concern.
"How do you know that name?" Randall asked. "I never said that one of the boy's names was Jason."
"He was my brother." Arkos said.
"So, it's true then. You are one of the brothers after all. William told me so... well, before he was eaten anyways."
"How would William know that?"
"He had strange powers. He was pretty much psychic." Randall said. "That and there aren't really many boys named Arkos."
Arkos took a moment to himself to think. Was it true that all of this was his fault? He hadn't intended to cause the end of the world, he simply wanted to save his brother.
"Don't look so down," Randall said. "You managed to survive all that time, so it's possible that your brother is still here too."
"It's not that. It's everything. All of this is my fault."
"Not really, I mean, that sage was likely crazy. After all, you don't seem like to type to cause the end of the world. Also, if it makes you feel better, all of the damage is contained by a giant bubble around the island."
"A bubble?"
"Yeah, it just appeared around the time the Chaos Reaper did. It blocks out most things, weather and sunlight included, but it seems to keep him here."
Arkos looked over at Cassie, who was listening intently.
"Now that all that's figured out I have one more question. Who exactly are you?"
