The War

Gustav looked up at Dark. "Oh. Hello. Have you come to die too?"

"Oh no, what happened to elderly and disabled first? Or is that only a mutant thing?"

"You sure talk a lot for someone who's practically dead."

"Meh, of course the man who wrote my book would know how the story ends. But don't cry, the good guys always win in the end." Dark gave a sweet smile. "And it's all right that I die. I got to be with Daniel. I got to rebuild Lycar. I got to raise Arianna. I don't curse your birth or rebirth. I am glad that you wrote a happy story for me." She laughed. "I liked it."

Gustav seemed confused. How can this be happening? After everything I've done, how? He looked over at Daniel. Of course, he'll have to die then.

"Of course, your song simply has to end. I'm sorry." Dark moved in front of Daniel.

Gustav tossed the battleaxe up into the air. His arms became swords and he lashed out at Dark.

Dark created an earth shield and formed a sword with her left hand.

Gustav watchedvas the battleaxe fell and hit its mark. Daniel cried out in pain as it dug into his shoulder. The pain was unbearable and was followed by a sensation similar to burning.

Dark ripped the axe from his shoulder and hit Gustav with the sword.

Gustav bled from the sword wound. He began chuckling to himself.

Daniel fell to the ground, clutching his shoulder. The pain didn't go away, in fact it began to spread.

Dark growled. "I will save him."

"Will you really?"

"Is that a challenge? Because I'm taking the pen of my tale into my own hands."

"Your silly metaphors won't help you." Gustav said. "You can not unwrite what has been written."

"No, but I can write the rest of my life. And 'silly metaphors' code the universe."

Gustav was about to say something, but Daniel's screaming began to fade. As his voice became silent his blood began to flow from his wound like water. "Looks like you are already too late." Gustav said.

Dark raised an eyebrow. "Really? You really think I wouldn't go and save his consciousness? I know hell exists, so there is an afterlife."

"You think that one can simply enter the afterlife at will?" Gustav asked.

At this point Daniel blacked out.

"Why not."

Gustav thought for a moment. "Well, actually, with Gaia and Ragnarok gone, it couldn't be that difficult..."

"See?"

"But how do you intend to get there? It's not as if you can open a rift in space and time or anything."

"Yes, I can."

"Oh. Very well then."
