Just an idea.

A boy fell through a blanket of darkness. It smothered him and he was terrified, yet it all felt familiar to him. He closed his eyes as it began to absorb him. Much to his surprise, the felling began to fade and when he reopened his eyes, the darkness had vanished.

He found that he was now in a completely grey room. As he looked around he saw that there were no light sources, just four empty grey walls. In front of him stood his brother and at his feet lay a shimmering sword. "What's going on?" he asked. "Where is this?"

His brother didn't make eye contact. "I have summoned you here. This room is called 'The Abyss'. It is a median of sorts, where Light and Darkness exist in harmony. As such, no real life can exist here."

"What do you mean you summoned me? And why? Why here?" The boy asked, having found more questions than answers.

"All in good time, but first, you must be tested." The boy's brother snapped his fingers and two shadowy figures rose from the ground. "Slay these creatures."

The boy looked at them. They seemed to be formed from pure darkness, the same kind that had brought him here, but something was wrong. They were distorted and hideous creatures, and even though they simply stood there motionless, the boy sensed they wanted something.

End it! A voice said in his head. Just kill me already! begged another. Was it possible that these monsters wished to be destroyed? The boy grabbed the sword from his feet and looked at one of them. It stared into his eyes and he felt it. There was a strong sadness emanating from the shadowy being. He looked away, not able to bear it much longer, and thrust the blade into the creatures chest.

There was a scream. Not the scream a typical dark being would make. This was less of a screech and something about it just felt so... human. The being dissolved into the ground and was gone, leaving the boy holding a blood-stained sword. He looked up at his brother.

"Have you realized what you have just done?" His brother asked. "I must assure you that what you just killed was indeed a person, now slay the next."

He glance over at it. It was trembling, clearly terrified. Just get it over with. A voice in his head pleaded.

"Too late!" His brother snapped his fingers again and the creatures chest burst open, sending blood all over the walls of the room. The creature screamed in agony, but its wound seemed to heal rather quickly. Even so, it was in pain. There was another snap and the boy watched in horror as its arm exploded.

The screams became louder, too much for the boy to handle. "Stop it!" He shouted "Just kill it already! Why are you making them suffer?!?"

"Simply really, they are inferior. If you wish for me to quit toying with this one then so be it." He snapped again and the beasts head exploded.

"Inferior?" The boy asked. "They were people, just like us! Do you really see yourself above everyone else?"

"As a matter of fact, I do." His brother said smugly. "And you know the one thing that separates me from the rest of the miserable human population? The Darkness. Through it I have become the most powerful being in existence. The reason you have been brought here is so that you may join me."

The boy looked at his brother, then the blood on the walls, and finally to the sword he was wielding. I killed someone. He told himself. They had done nothing wrong. And yet, he just manipulates them as if they were playthings. Is it truly possible to obtain such power?

His brother looked up at him. "Well, what do you say?"

Continue it.

Kay. As soon as I decide what shall happen next. Unlike my last stories, this one doesn't have a plot written in advance.

Edit: So, the next bit goes a little like this:

"You're crazy!" The boy shouted. "I would never sacrifice myself to the Darkness, even if you have."

"Oh? Is that so?"

"This power, it only causes suffering. You've strayed too far from the path and gotten lost inside something you couldn't possibly hope to control. I'm sorry, but I won't hand myself over to it so easily."

"You speak as if you have some sort of idea of what this power is like. Don't fool yourself."

"I'm not the one who's fooling myself. You are messing with Darkness and your heart isn't strong enough to contain it."

"Bah! If you truly believe that strength of heart is enough to stop this Darkness then so be it. I will test your little theory."

The boy's brother had an aura of evil emanating from him, and the Darkness within him seemed to be seeping from his pores. The Darkness had taken him, there was no going back.

The boy raised his sword and charged at his brother, but a burst of dark energy knocked him back. It burned his flesh, but left no wounds. He charged again, his sword dragging along the ground this time. He swung upwards diagonally, but his attack was avoided as his brother stepped backwards calmly, the blade just barely missing his face. The boy swung vertically this time, but his attack was blocked by a demonic blade the seemed to appear out of thin air.

"Surely that isn't all you've got." His brother shoved him backwards with the side of his sword. The boy gripped the hilt of his sword with both hands and swung at his brother's neck in an attempt to decapitate him. The blade stopped less than an inch from his throat as the boy felt something pierce his stomach.

The sword was still in his brother's hand. Impossible! He couldn't have moved that fast! The boy looked down to see his brother's arm stabbing into his gut. He slid his hand out of the boy's stomach and a looked of satisfaction crossed his face.

"In the end, your heart couldn't save you after all."

Everything was beginning to fade to black and the boy felt weary. He stumbled back before falling. The ground seemed to vanish beneath his feet and he fell headfirst into a pitch black void. It's suffocating me. Is this what Darkness feels like?

"Arkos!" A voice called.

Someone... someone's calling me?

Above him, the void exploded in a blinding white light.

So it's Arkos?

Indeed, only, it's the real Arkos.

Real?

Like, not the same Arkos that I created to do that topic in the future. This one is more or less based on the original concept for Arkos, which I came up with in elementary school. He lives in a post-apocalyptic future and fights with a sword. The other one went to school, and there was no apocalypse, and it wasn't the same.

On a side note, this story is before the apocalypse.

Arkos managed to get reoriented as the Darkness around him vanished and was replaced with a glowing white Light. His falling slowed and his feet touched the ground. Or atleast, he though it was the ground. Whatever it was, it was the exact same glowing white as the Light that now surrounded him.

A figure with a single white wing descended from above and landed in front of him.

"What's going on?" Arkos asked. "Who are you?"

"It would seem that the monster tossed you body into a void of Darkness, thinking you were dead. I was able to form this capsule around you to protect you from it. That much Darkness would kill you in only a few minutes."

"I still don't know who you are."

"I suppose you could call me a guardian of the Light. I saved you for the same reason that beast summoned you to itself."

"And why is that exactly?"

"Within you lies a great potential. It sought to make you a weapon of Darkness."

"My brother would never do something like that! Sure, he's changed since he took on the power of Darkness, but he would never-"

"That being was not your brother."

"What?"

"The person who you know, your brother, is nothing more than a vessel for the Darkness. He no longer exists, only an empty shell that is controlled by evil itself."

"That's not true!"

"I know it is difficult for you to understand, but that kind of power comes with a price."

Arkos said nothing. He looked away from the guardian. It wasn't all that difficult to understand, but he still refused to believe it. Something else was bugging him.

"You said that you rescued me for the same reason that he kidnapped me, but if he wanted to make me a weapon of Darkness, then do you want to turn me into a weapon of Light?"

"Not exactly. I intend to grant you power, of course, but no where near as much as the Darkness was offering. You should still retain your free will."

"And what if it takes me over? Like it did with him?"

"Why, I would have to destroy you of course."

The Light was beginning to fade, and a long crack suddenly ran down the side of the capsule. Arkos looked at it, Darkness was pouring in.

"It would seem I can't keep you in here much longer. I shall send you back to the place that you were before all of this began."

A ring of energy appeared around Arkos and there was a blinding flash. Arkos awoke on the couch of his apartment. He looked around, wondering what had just happened. Was any of that real? Or was it all a dream? It took him a moment to realize that his cellphone was ringing. It seemed that he had fallen asleep with it in his hand.

He answered it.

"Yo man. What's the deal? I've been calling you for hours!"

Arkos recognized the voice. "Randall? Sorry, I just... overslept."

"Well hurry up and get over here bro. Something weird is going on."

There was a click as his friend hung up. Arkos sat up and tossed his phone onto the couch beside him. Fortunately he had fallen asleep in his clothes. He got up and walked out the door, wondering what it was that Randall was talking about. He walked calmly as it was nice day. It seemed weird that anyone could be in a rush on a day like this.

Lol, he fell asleep in his clothes. ES? I did stuff like that instead of math X3

Arkos made his way over to where he and all his friends typically hung out. He almost instantly turned his attention upwards. He hadn't noticed until just now that the sky was an odd rusty orange. He had never seen it that color before, especially around this time of day. Suddenly, something like a jolt of static ran across it and the sky became a light blue. That's odd.

Arkos turned his attention downward to see Randall standing in front of him.

"You saw it too, didn't you? Something is seriously not right here."

"You mean besides the sky changing colors?"

"There's more to it than that." Randall said as he picked up a rock. "Watch."

He flung the rock at a nearby lamppost, but instead of hitting it the rock just passed right through. A wave of static ran through the lamppost.

Arkos walked over to the lamppost and reached out to touch it. His hand just went though the it, like the rock had. "What's going on?" he asked Randall.

"No idea. I do have some theories though. On the way over here did you happen to see anyone at all?"

Arkos thought about it. Usually he passed many people on the way to the park, but thinking back, he hadn't seen anybody. "No, I don't think so."

"Exactly."

"So what, the world just, ended or something and everybody vanished?"

"Not quite. From what I can gather, this seems to be some sort of virtual reality. All I know for sure is that this is not the real world."

Arkos figured that from what he had seen, it made sense. "But why is it that we are here?"

Randall shrugged.

Arkos looked around. Out of nowhere he got a really bad feeling. Everything began to become hazy and static ran through the ground. There was a loud noise that closely resembled radio static. Arkos covered his ears as they noise got louder. Everything began to fade to black.

Arkos opened his eyes to find that he was back on the couch with his phone in his hand. What just happened? Was all of that a dream? He got up and walked out the door, heading back to the park.

On the way there everything seemed normal. The sky was blue atleast. Still, he noticed that there wasn't a single person out today. He picked up the rock and tossed it at the lamppost. There was a ring as the rock hit the metal and bounced off.

Arkos sat down on a nearby bench and took a moment to think about what was going on. Before he was able to figure anything out Darkness rose up from the ground. A wave of static shot through it and a hooded figure emerged from the Darkness.

"Who are you?!?" Arkos asked

"Someone from the Dark." The responded. "I was sent here to wake you up."

"Wake me up?" Arkos asked.

They tossed him a gold coin. "You'll be needing that to pay for the ferry." More Darkness rose from the ground in a pillar and took the form of a sword. The stranger grabbed it and pointed it at Arkos. "Fear not. Your death shall be quick."

Orange skies...

Yeah, but then it reloaded and it was blue.

Wut did?

The sky.

The sky reloads?

It did. That's what all the static was about.

oh. next part?

Arkos looked at the coin in his hand and then back up at the stranger. "You intend to kill me?" he asked as he put the coin in his pocket.

"Indeed."

"But why? I don't even know you!"

"I'll kill you because it's what I was sent here to do."

"Who sent you then?"

"You sure ask a lot of questions."

The figure vanished and reappeared a moment later with its blade raised above its head. Arkos ducked just in time to avoid having his head chopped clean off. He moved from the bench and quickly ran past this person, trying to get as much distance between him and them as possible.

When he figured he had gotten far enough away he turned back around and faced them.

"If you intend to fight, then draw your weapon," The stranger instructed him.

A mist appeared beside Arkos with the hilt of a sword floating in it.

What is this? Arkos wondered as he reached out for it. When he grabbed the hilt, the mist seemed to pulled towards it and took the form of a blade. Arkos noted that the blade was solid now, despite being made of the strange mist.

The stranger vanished again. He reappeared infront of Arkos, just like last time. Arkos was ready and easily blocked the attack. He swung at their face with his free hand, which was in the form of a fist. The blow connected with only thin air as the strange disappeared again.

Arkos looked around, but they seemed to be gone this time. "Coward!" Arkos called.

Arkos suddenly sensed something and a moment later he felt a sharp pain in his back. He looked down to see the blade of the stranger's sword was coming out of his stomach. Gripping his sword tightly he spun around suddenly and slashed his opponent across the chest.

In his surprise the stranger had let go of their sword, so it remained in Arkos' stomach and stopped him from bleeding out. The stranger's injury seemed severe, but there was no blood. They quickly summoned up two dagger from the shadows to take the place of the sword they lost.

The two fought on until Arkos felt he could fight no more. It was in that moment that he felt like giving up that the stranger seemed to freeze. Arkos, seeing this, quickly decapitated his enemy with little hesitation. The body melted into Darkness, which vanished into the shadows.

The sword in Arkos' stomach also melted, causing much bleeding. Out of nowhere a strange light enveloped him and he found himself face-to-face with the stranger from before.

"Am I dead?" Arkos asked.

"Not quite."

"So, what then?"

"Well, I hadn't realized how much danger you would be in. Clearly the Darkness is angered by your refusal to join them."

"And?"

"In the event of another attack, I grant you permission to summon the sacred sword Masamune. It is a blade that can only be rivaled by the demonic Muramasa, the very blade your brother wields."

"So, you want me to fight my brother?"

"Not exactly, though I fear he will find you in time. Possession of the sacred sword of Light gives you a stronger power over Light. This should be enough to keep you safe."

The bright light surrounding him began to fade and soon Arkos was standing in the park once again. His wounds had healed and the metal blade he held was replaced with a glowing white one that seemed, angelic, in some way atleast.
