Ending:
Marissa spun around to see something moving in the shadows. She hurled a fireball at it, but it seemed to miss.
"Now now. Is that any way to treat the man who saved your life?"
Marissa watched as Night emerged from the shadows. He didn't just step out of them, he literally came out of them.
"I've been looking all over for you! How come you didn't show up sooner?"
"And might I ask why you were looking for me?"
"I was hoping to ask if you would reconsider..."
"Why do you think I would reconsider? I already said no and I stand by it."
"But why?"
"I refuse to watch anyone else suffer."
"If you don't help us we'll all die!"
"That's not my fault. Had you just accepted defeat you wouldn't be in this situation."
"Accepted defeat? You mean if we had given up?"
Night didn't look to pleased with what she said.
"We shall not turn our back on the cause we fight for, especially not after all those people died fighting for it!"
Night suddenly appeared behind her. "Given up? Is that what you think? I never 'turned my back' on anything."
She spun around to face him. "Then why do you refuse to fight?"
There was no response.
"Would you really sit by a let the fire die out? That's not the Night I know. We were all counting on you."
Night looked over the edge of the roof. By now all of the commotion had died down. The lights of the city twinkled and glistened. The townsfolk went about their merry lives, oblivious to everything around them.
"And what is to become of us when the fighting is done?" he asked, "most of the people who rally for your cause know nothing else. What are they supposed to do then, if there is nothing to fight for?"
Marissa didn't understand where this was coming from.
"I had a sister, you know. She managed to end up in 3085, so you may know of her. It's said that she escaped. If she were to get caught up in all this..."
"Night!"
He turned to her.
"If I find your sister for you will you fight for us?"
Night knew that she would say something like that. She was determined, that's for sure.
"If you can find her, I would do anything you ask."
That night they made a pact. There were three days until the fighting began. If Marissa could find his sister by then he would fight for them. If not then he would continue searching on his own, leaving them to fight without him. Afterwords they returned to Marissa's tribe in the woods to explain the agreement.
End of chapter 2
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~--------------------------~~~~~~~~
Short, not much action, little of anything really. All I can say is that it leads into chapter 3, though it doesn't do much to tie up chapter 2
